Under Pressure, dir. Andrucha Waddington

A hospital in Brazil converts into a battlefield to defend the Hippocratic legal oath: Under Pressure.

During a very tense day, dealing with scenes typical of war, the doctors of a public hospital accustomed to a harsh reality have to face another tense decision when three patients in critical condition need to have procedures at the same time. With few resources, they need to tend to all of them and deal with the social pressures of that situation.

A Man Called Ove, dir. Hannes Holm

We never know enough about people’s problems and the miseries they have lived: A Man Called Ove.

This comedy drama was nominated to the Academy Awards in the Foreign Language Film category. Ove (Rolf Lassgård) is the kind of man who points at people he dislikes as if they were burglars caught outside his window. He has principles and strict routines. People call him “the bitter neighbor from hell.” However, behind the cranky exterior there is a story and a sadness.

One November morning a young couple with two chatty young daughters move in next door and accidentally flatten Ove’s mailbox, it is the lead-in to a comical and heartwarming tale of unkempt cats, unexpected friendship, and the ancient art of backing up a U-Haul. All of which will change one cranky old man and a local resident's’ association to their very foundations.

J Beyond Flamenco, dir. Carlos Saura

A magic dance, its traditions and protagonists: J Beyond Flamenco.

His director, Carlos Saura, goes back to his roots to film la jota from Aragon, and to establish connections with classic music and flamenco. Jota comes from the Arabic verb chotar, that means to jump. But the Jota is much more, it’s a unique rhythm, cheerful and contagious that has been perfected over the years.

Nowadays, many dance academies are devoted to teaching the Jota, but… how is it evolving? La Jota is a musical film that gathers the best existing material on this subject, leaving a visual document of artists of past and present; orthodoxy and heterodoxy; songs and rhythms already considered classics along with others that are still to come. It is a film that reflects the diverse range of the Jota.

Rara, dir. Pepa San Martín

Being raised by a same sex couple, a sensitive movie seen with sharp-eyed and tender-hearted: Rara.

Since their parents split up, Sara (Julia Lübbert) and her younger sister live with their mother, whose new partner is a woman. Life is very similar for them than it is for other families. The situation is actually totally fine with Sara. But not everyone sees it that way, her father in particular has his doubts.

As Sara’s 13th birthday approaches, she feels rather overwhelmed: her first crush, her body is starting to change and to top it all off, everything feels wrong.

Soldado, dir. Manuel Abramovich

Search for a new life means to be aware of the changes and sacrifices: Soldado.

Juan José González is a young man who decides to join the army. He becomes the drummer in the military band, and his everyday life is now a combination of military training and music. What does the Argentine Army do these days, more than thirty years after the dictatorship? What does it mean to be a soldier in a country without wars.
