Prominent figures of the cinematographic international industry and of the media in general, as well as of the diplomatic world, will accompany the dear actress, important representative of the Italian neorealism cinema, forthwith that IFF Panama has prepared to honor her

Lucía Bosé in Death of a Cyclist (1955)

Possessing a distinctive screen presence, at times furtive, always alluring, Lucía Bosé has sustained an acting career that spans over six decades. She began as a key figure in neorealism, playing the femme fatale in class-conscious melodramas for Michelangelo Antonioni and Juan Antonio Bardem. Both films, Chronicle of a Love Affair and Death of a Cyclist, are screening as part of our homage.

"I think that it is not IFF Panama who honors Lucía Bosé, it is Lucía Bosé who grants a great honor to the festival and to its audience on having made possible that a figure of her height in the cinematographic world accompanies us in this fifth edition" indicates very filled with enthusiasm Pituka Ortega Heilbron, Director of IFF Panama.

Great italian director, Luchino Visconti discovered Bosé. Although these two would never work together, Visconti was who recommended her to Antonioni and Giuseppe De Santis, who gave Bosé her first role in Under the Olive Tree (which also screens as part of our homage).

“In the second phase of her acting career, her persona became more complex, imbued with experience and a deepening craft. Her early work is so remarkable, but her work in the later films is in many regards more impressive. Besides De Santis, Antonioni and Bardem, the luminaries with whom Bosé collaborated include Luis Buñuel (Cela s'appelle l'aurore), Jean Cocteau (Testament of Orpheus), Fellini (Satyricon), Taviani Brothers (Under the Sign of Scorpio), Marguerite Duras (Nathalie Granger), Daniel Schmid (Violanta) and legendary French actress Jeanne Moreau, who casted Bosé in her directorial debut, Lumière”, says Diana Sánchez, IFF Panama’s Artistic Director.

Next Saturday, April 9th, Teatro Balboa will host a Red Carpet event for Bosé, who there will be accompanied of dear friends of the world of the cinema such as also great actress Marisa Paredes, Chema Prado, Director of the Spanish Film library, writer Boris Izaguirre, Jorge Arriagada, Laurie Anderson, Nicolas Jaar, the directors of Salsipuedes, between other outstanding international and national guests.
