GOETHE-INSTITUT MEXIKO AND DOCUMENTARY CAMPUS JOIN IFF PANAMA TO OFFER UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO TWELVE NON-FICTION PROJECTS FROM CENTRAL AMERICA, THE CARIBBEAN AND MEXICO

Tuesday, February 21, 2017

The initiative is part of Campus Latino, a high-end training workshop geared towards filmmakers from Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico. 12 projects will compete for 6 slots granted to the projects with the highest potential to achieve regional and international co-productions. The second phase of the program will take place in Mexico City on October 2017.

Campus Latino’s first phase will take place during the 6th edition of the International Film Festival of Panama thanks to a collaboration between the festival and Goethe-Institut Mexiko, Documentary Campus, City of Knowledge, Panama, DOCMX Mexico and DOK fórum Munich. The programme, which offers high-quality training from successful documentary filmmakers, seeks to ensure the quality of the participants’ projects and increase their chances for international and regional co-productions.

The participants will work alongside documentary experts from Latin America and Europe on the subjects of storytelling structure, dramaturgy and script development. The possibilities for  financing a project will be assessed in accordance to their international co-production appeal. The workshop will take place in spaces provided by City of Knowledge.

“This is another big step in our commitment to the film industry in Central America and the Caribbean. This collaboration with the Goethe-Institut is an extraordinary initiative that will strengthen our filmmakers and our regional cinema,” said Pituka Ortega-Heilbron, IFF Panama Director.

Filmmakers from the following countries are invited to submit their project: Central America, (Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama) Caribbean (Barbados, Bonaire, Cayman Islands, Saint Croix, Bahamas, Antigua, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Dominica, Montserrat, Saba, Saint Kitts, Sain Lucia, Saint Thomas, Saint John, Tórtola, Granada, San Vicente, Guadalupe, Martinica, Trinidad & Tobago) and Mexico.
