Synopsis: 
Everything begins with a stray bullet... And a wealthy young man trying to evict 250 families who are squatting on the land he inherited from his father. The leader of the settlement is ready to negotiate, knowing that an eviction will not happen without blood. Suspecting a betrayal, the dwellers voice their concern. Such is Life in the Tropics is a story about ambition, corruption, betrayal, and thirst for power and control within a family and its society. It is a story of desire, guilt and the limits we set in place to create a more decent world. The setting of this drama is the bustling, tropical city of Guayaquil.

Sebastián Cordero is an Ecuadorian film director, screenwriter and editor, often recognized for his work in Ratas, Ratones, Rateros (1999), Crónicas (2004) and Europa Report (2013). His films have been exhibited in festivals such as the Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival among others.
